Background

On May 26th 2012 a new EU directive came into force requiring website owners to provide clear and comprehensive information to site visitors about cookies used and how they may refuse them.

Site owners will therefore now be obliged to:-

CookieGuard is a jQuery library plugin that helps site owners comply with the new legislation by alerting visitors to cookies used, explaining what they do and giving them the opportunity to block non-essential cookies.

To configure CookieGuard for your site, fill out the form below and we will generate a simple piece of code that you can embed into your website to manage cookies. Developers may download the plugin free of charge under a GNU licence.

To configure Cookie Guard for your website, please add all known cookies via the form below. We have listed some common cookies for your convenience and you can add your own site-specific ones. The Friendly Name and Description are used only for descriptive purposes. The "Exact Cookie Name(s)", must match exactly the name of the cookie that is dropped by your site (see "What cookies does my site use") and can include more than one cookie in a comma separated list. Check the 'Essential' checkbox to indicate cookies that are needed for the correct operation of the site (e.g. session state cookies that languages like php and asp.net use without which the site would not operate correctly.)

What Cookies Does My Site Use?

You can easily see what cookies your site is using by visiting the home page and following the instructions below. Please note that as Cookie Guard is built on javascript it cannot actively block httpOnly cookies, they should therefore be added to list of cookies as "essential".

firefox Firefox (Classic): Tools Menu > Page Info > Security Tab > View Cookies
firefox OR Firefox (New): Firefox Menu > Options > Privacy > Remove Individual Cookies (select your website)
ie Internet Explorer: Press F12 > Cache Menu > View Cookie Information
chrome Chrome: Spanner icon > Tools > Developer Tools > Cookies
safari Safari: Settings menu > Preferences > Privacy tab > Details button > search for the current site domain in the search box
safari Opera: Settings menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > Cookies Menu > Manage Cookies (find your site)
